Mrs. Udell Stokes Wimple, a native of Caswell County, NC, was born on April 26, 1921. She was a loving and devoted daughter to the late Robert Stokes and Fannie Alice Henderson Stokes.
Mrs. Udell Stokes Wimple, age 98, departed her earthly life, and was granted her angel wings for her heavenly home on April 16, 2020. She passed away peacefully at the Brian Health & Rehabilitation Center in Yanceyville, NC.
Mrs. Udell Stokes Wimple dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at the young age of 16 and was steadfast to her faith. For over 80 years, she was an active member of the Sassafras Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the nursing unit, a missionary, and held the title of “mother” of the church. She cherished and loved her church, community, and the Lord. Her strong faith was often heard through emotional testimonies throughout the years, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!” Psalm 107:2
Mrs. Udell Stokes Wimple was a homemaker that worked and toiled alongside her husband, who was a tobacco farmer for many years. Her interests included: church, family, gardening, sewing, and reading the bible; especially the book of John (her favorite). She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, rearing children, and loving and supporting her husband until his death at the age of 83.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wimple; two step-sons, Harry Wimple Jr. and Leroy Wimple; three brothers, William Frank, Robert Burlin, and Sam Arnett Stokes.
Mrs. Udell Stokes Wimple, leaves to cherish her memory to her loving family: three sons and their wives, Robert and Ada Stokes of Blanch, NC, Wendell and Latrella Wimple of Danville, VA; one step-son, Lewis Wimple of Yanceyville, NC; two step-daughters, Lillie Mae and Calvin Dixon of Jappatowne, MD, Lucy Mae Walker of Greensboro, NC; three nieces, Lossie Pearl Lea of Ruffin, NC, Deola Stokes Chandler of Greensboro, NC, and Mary Irvin Turner of Yanceyville, NC; one nephew, Yancey Ray Stokes of Fayetteville, NC; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a host other relatives and friends.
