Wilbert Johnson

Yanceyville, NC - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mr. Wilbert Johnson of 239 Foster Road, Yanceyville, NC who died Saturday, November 7, 2020 at his residence.

Wilbert Johnson, born January 13, 1939 to the late Roosevelt and Esther Johnson in Halifax County, North Carolina.

Wilbert was a member of Crowell Missionary Baptist Church in Halifax, NC. At an early age, he participated in various church activities. Wilbert was educated in the Halifax County School System, where he graduated from T.S. Inborden High School in Enfield, NC in 1959.

Wilbert joined the United States Army in 1960, where he was able to see and experience different parts of the world. After leaving the Army in 1964 with a honorable discharge, he started his life in Paterson, NJ, where he began his career as an Insurance Agent. Wilbert retired from Lance Security Agency, where he was a supervisor.

Wilbert met and married the love of his life Joan Henderson-Johnson in 1990. Wilbert and Joan, whom he cherished dearly were a team and traveled often to visit their love ones in Maryland and North Carolina.

Wilbert and Joan moved to Yanceyville, NC after their retirement, where he enjoyed gardening, canning, and making homemade wine.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joan, his parents, his sister's Janie Johnson and Ruth James, and his brothers Andrew and Roy Johnson.

Wilbert Johnson leaves cherish his memories, step-children; Regina Johnson, and Herbert Graves Jr., two sisters, Lillie Harrison (James) and Mary Warren; a special nephew, Robert Johnson (Valgene); three sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Due to the constraints of public gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak a viewing will be Friday, November 13, 2020 from 2 to 8 pm in Juanita S. Fulton Memorial Chapel of Fulton-Walton Funeral Home with a limit of 10 people at a time.

Graveside Services for Mr. Wilbert Johnson will be Saturday, November 14, 2020, 1:00 PM at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Yanceyville , NC.
